She described an inner circle of “shady” people who she felt created a “force field” around her father and are now spreading “false claims” about her. Brooke explained that her estrangement was not a matter of a lack of love, but a necessary boundary she had to set due to the people her father surrounded himself with in his final years. “My dad and I have been through a lot of stuff over the years… I still have his back,” she stated. “The estrangement is a boundary… I didn’t like certain people that he was around… I did not trust, that I had seen behavior in. And I said, ‘Dad flashing yellow signs, like, hey, this is messed up. Like, are you going to do anything about it?’ And my dad was never alone. He was always with someone… most of those people I did not like.” She said her father’s response was, “well, I guess you have to live your life, and I have to live mine,” which is how their relationship was left.
