A Brooklyn activist is speaking on camera for the first time since witnessing her boyfriend's murder and following what she calls a war of words on social media from a Queens City Council member.
It was reposted by Queens City Council member Vickie Paladino, who Morales says took shots at her political beliefs and the murder of her boyfriend in 2023.
"I was really disturbed, upset and rattled," said Morales in her first TV interview since the murder.
She said Paladino's post has led to an onslaught of harassment online.
"I feel unsafe out in the world because of people like Vicki Paladino and the people who are emboldened into violence and into harassment, often manifesting as real physical harm and even death," said Morales.
In 2023, Morales survived a brutal attack in Bed-Stuy, where an unprovoked teen stabbed her boyfriend and fellow activist Ryan Carson.
"I have to relive that night every single day. I also have to relive the harassment that followed the defamation, the misrepresentation of what happened," she says.
In a now deleted post on X, Paladino claimed Morales "didn't immediately call the police because the murderer was nonwhite, and her politics dictate that police are the real evil." Paladino went on to accuse Morales of "failing to pick out the murderer in a police lineup, likely on purpose to hinder the prosecution and ensure the murderer walked free."
Morales said the accusations are not true and have politicized Carson's murder.
