Hyderabad: Fresh figures in the State government’s own Socio-Economic Outlook-2026 have cast serious doubt on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s claims in the Assembly that his government raised Rs 3.47 lakh crore in loans and repaid nearly Rs 3.3 lakh crore.
The BRS leaders stated that the Chief Minister gave false statement on debt servicing which was far lower than those mentioned in the House.
During the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address, the Chief Minister argued that heavy borrowing was unavoidable because of an Rs 8 lakh crore debt left by the previous BRS government.
He also claimed that the Congress government raised Rs 3.47 lakh crore loan and spent Rs 3.3 lakh crore towards repayments including interest on loans obtained by the previous BRS regime. However, the official debt-servicing data contradicted this narrative.
According to the Socio Economic Outlook 2026 tabled in the Assembly, the Congress government spent Rs 1.67 lakh crore towards repayment of principle and interest between December 2023 and December 2025. These repayments were pertaining to FRBM (Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management) loans and government-guaranted loans raised by SPVs but serviced by the government.
