Bruce Power’s Ontario Expansion to Create “18,900 Net-New Jobs Per Year” - Samfiru Tumarkin LLP

What’s Happening?

The Ontario government is giving Bruce Power the green light to proceed with its third — or “C” — nuclear generating station in the province.

“At a time when our economy faces threats from abroad, [we’re] doubling down on made-in-Canada nuclear power,” Energy Minister Stephen Lecce said in a joint news release on May 7, 2026.

“The Bruce C [Nuclear Project] will advance generational employment — creating 18,900 net-new jobs per year, transforming [the utility] into the world’s largest nuclear generating facility.”

Ontario has directed the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) to enter into a cost-sharing and recovery agreement, enabling Bruce Power to proceed with:

  • First Nations and community engagement
  • Workforce planning
  • Pre-construction and site preparation planning

These activities are expected to cost $300 million and be completed by 2030. Once operational, the Bruce C facility is currently expected to maintain approximately 6,700 jobs.
