A social media post made by a Boston University employee stating that six young men who are involved with the Department of Government Efficiency are “wanted for treason dead or alive” has sparked a wave of online criticism and attention from law enforcement.
The post was made Monday by Jared May, an assistant media technician at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, on Blue Sky, according to media reports and online screenshots.
The social media post came after WIRED published a story Sunday identifying six men involved in the Department of Government Efficiency, a new government agency headed by Elon Musk. They are: Akash Bobba, Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger, and Ethan Shaotran.
In his post, May names the six young men and includes photos of five of them, according to an online screenshot.
One of the men, Edward Coristine, is a freshman at Northeastern University studying mechanical engineering and physics, according to The Huntington News, the school’s independent newspaper.
May’s post garnered heavy amounts of online backlash.
“He has committed a crime.” Musk wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in response to a screenshot of May’s post that circulated on the platform.
Charlie Kirk, founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, a conservative nonprofit, wrote on X that Boston University should lose all federal funding if May wasn’t fired immediately.
