California Senator Pitches $25 Per Hour Pay for Health Workers - Bloomberg Law

A California lawmaker wants to recruit more workers into health care with a $25 per hour minimum wage as hospitals and medical offices struggle to retain staff after a wave of pandemic burnout.

State Sen. Maria Elena Durazo (D) on Tuesday introduced a bill (S.B. 525) to raise the minimum wage for those workers statewide starting Jan. 1, 2024. The statewide minimum wage is $15.50. Only Inglewood, Calif., has a $25 per hour minimum wage for health-care workers in place after voters passed a ballot measure last November.
