Canada Removing Counter-Duties on US Goods Covered by Free Trade Deal - Samfiru Tumarkin LLP

What’s Happening?

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Aug. 22 that the country is removing counter-duties on American products covered by the Canada-US-Mexico free trade agreement (CUSMA).

Since February, Canada has implemented retaliatory measures on a variety of goods — ranging from aluminum to Florida orange juice and Kentucky bourbon.

A White House official told CTV News that the Trump administration welcomes the move, calling it “long overdue.”
