Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited (CPKC) is a major freight railway company in North America. It was formed through the merger of Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS), which was completed in April 2023. The company is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, and it operates an extensive rail network that stretches across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. This makes CPKC the first and only single-line railway connecting those three countries.
CPKC employs roughly 20,000 people across its operations, according to Wikipedia, with a significant portion of its workforce based in Canada. Approximately 3,300 of its Canadian staff are unionized, represented by the Teamsters. The company provides a variety of jobs, including train conductors, engineers, rail traffic controllers, mechanics, and various roles in corporate offices.
On August 22, 2024, more than 9,000 CN and CPKC rail workers were locked out after negotiations between the companies and The Teamsters representing unionized employees fell apart.
