Ken Ranta, CEO of the District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board, is advising the public some election candidates are making inaccurate statements regarding the board and the work that it does.
THUNDER BAY — The CEO of the District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board is contradicting statements some municipal election candidates are making about issues related to homelessness.
Ken Ranta released a statement on social media alleging there have been "false and misleading" claims about the social services board and the work it does, the tenants it supports and the properties it operates.
"There are also claims that, if elected, they would change how TBDSSAB would operate," he wrote.
Ranta noted that the board is an independent organization, is not part of a municipal government, and that its operations are "unaffected" by the results of an election.
He pointed out that its housing operations, including eligibility and tenant rights, are guided by provincial legislation.
According to Ranta, no candidate in the current election has reached out to the DSSAB to obtain information or discuss any concerns they may have.
In his post, he outlined some of the work the board has done in order to "clear up any misinformation."
Ranta wrote that the board acknowledges its properties are not exempt from the actions of criminals and that it takes measures to keep people safe within the scope of what a landlord can legally do.
