CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS2) — The Canyon County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Donahue have agreed to a settlement in a civil rights/whistleblower case filed by a victim witness coordinator to the tune of $425,000 in damages.
The complainant was Victim Witness Coordinator Aleshea Boals. Boals was a Victim Witness Coordinator for nearly 15 years with the Canyon County Sheriff's Office, according to court documents. Boals alleged that she was harassed and discriminated against after she brought information to her superiors that victims were being mistreated and aggressively interrogated by a detective.
Boals says that the behavior she witnessed beginning in 2020, especially around victims of sexual assault, was against Idaho Code and the CCSO policy. After brining this information to her superiors, Boals started losing work load and privilege's, and the work she did get was constantly criticized. The detective Boals called out was promoted.
In a statement released through her attorney's, Boals had this to say about the recent settlement agreement:
