Capgemini daycare abuse: Police probe whistleblower's motive behind leaking videos - Deccan Herald

Bengaluru: Bengaluru police are investigating whether there was any "ulterior motive" behind a former caretaker — believed to be the whistleblower — leaking videos allegedly showing children being abused at the now-shut daycare centre inside the Capgemini campus in Brookefield.

The former caretaker, Sujatha, 45, was arrested by the HAL police on Saturday, becoming the second person taken into custody in the case.

Another caretaker, Vijayalakshmi, had been arrested earlier. Both are currently in judicial custody.

According to police sources, Sujatha joined the daycare centre in May and frequently had disagreements with other staff members and the supervisor. She was allegedly dismissed in June and denied her salary.

In her statement to the police, Sujatha said she recorded the videos on June 22 and later shared them with an acquaintance, Gautham, who eventually forwarded them to the Child Protection hotline.

Investigators are examining the delay in reporting the alleged abuse to the authorities and whether the videos were circulated only after Sujatha's fallout with the daycare staff and the dispute over her salary.

Police are also looking into the manner in which the videos were recorded, sources said. A forensic examination of the videos is awaited.
