A Cambridge, Mass., police officer may go forward with a 42 U.S.C. § 1983 claim alleging violations of his First Amendment right to free speech against the city of Cambridge and a former commissioner of its police department, after he was suspended by the department when he temporarily posted controversial comments about George Floyd on his private Facebook page, a federal district court in Massachusetts ruled.
