Case: Wage & Hour/Overtime (Fed. Cl.) - Bloomberg Law

The U.S. Court of Federal Claims denied in part the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ motion to dismiss claims of unpaid overtime wages in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Federal Employees Pay Act made by current and former employees alleging they weren’t paid for time spent on required pre- and post-shift activities. The court found that security and health screenings prior to the employees starting their shift didn’t qualify as compensable time under the FLSA because the tasks aren’t productive to their principal work activities.
