RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Reno Police say a woman walked into a car dealership to buy an SUV, but employees had a gut feeling that something was off. The gut reaction prevented a potential crime that could've had devastating consequences for a teenager.
Here's how it all went down: A woman walked into Reno Tahoe Auto Group on August 8 for an appointment to buy a $51,000 Toyota 4Runner.
"She sat down, she did the preliminary stuff: Gave us a license, took the test drive. It was really quick. She was trying to get in and out of here super fast," said Joaquin Arevalo, Sales Manager at RTAG.
Arevalo said he felt something was off. A salesman who talked to the woman also believed something was suspicious.
The woman trying to buy the SUV had a paper driver's license from the DMV, a social security number and documents saying she was 19-year-old Hannah Di Lillo.
What alerted me was when I said 'I need a picture ID before I deliver the car' and I said 'She's not taking it tonight until we get that.' That’s when she started to get a little agitated, concerned, wanted to get out of here real quick," Arevalo said.
His salesman looked on social media and found an Instagram account for a Hannah Di Lillo and sent her a direct message.
"It was just kind of saying 'Hey, someone came into our shop before closing today and they came in using your name. They had your driver's license number, your social security number.'"
Di Lillo's mother got a look at the suspect.
