Las Vegas (KSNV) — Police officers right here in our community are being honored on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

The Clark County School District took it to the next level with a cool surprise for some of its law enforcement employees.

Three employees with the CCSD Police Department were gifted free tickets for a Vegas Golden Knights game on Monday.

They also got custom gold home jerseys bearing each of their last names and a visit from Chance, the Golden Knights mascot.

The three who were honored are Officer Frank Franklin, Mari Fernandez, and Officer Corey Harris.

Each of them received an exemplary employee certificate for their hard work in supporting a safe learning environment for those who work around them.

Officer Harris, who has worked at Desert Oasis High School for seven years, said it was a great surprise and an honor to be recognized.

We’re told he’s popular among the students on campus, so our News 3 crew asked him what’s his advice for other officers.

“Being approachable, I think, is the best that any officer can do. Trying to have that relationship with a student and having that positive interaction with police,” Harris said.

“Some people can be afraid of police, and they don’t have to be. And so that’s why I try to be approachable to our students.”

Students have even created an Officer Harris fan club page on Instagram, showing off the positive things he does on campus.
