On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, CDT and more than 20 other tech policy and civil society groups released a letter urging Congress to pass the bipartisan AI Whistleblower Protection Act. The bill, backed by Senators Klobuchar and Blackburn and Representatives Obernolte and Lieu, would protect AI workers from retaliation when reporting risks to federal regulators.
“Congress has the opportunity to protect individuals who come forward in good faith and to reinforce the principle that safety, ethics, and accountability must accompany innovation. Whistleblowers serve a valuable and necessary role in Congressional oversight, and in an age where AI systems influence everything from elections to defense systems, their protections are more urgent than ever.”
In addition to CDT, signers include groups like Encode AI, Americans for Responsible Innovation, Demand Progress, National Consumers League, National Whistleblower Center, Public Knowledge, and Young People’s Alliance.
