Cellist Files Defamation, Coercion Complaint Against Kang Jin-goo - 조선일보

The cellist who sparked the "Cheongdam-dong drinking gathering controversy" filed a police complaint on the 31st against Kang Jin-goo, former representative of The Tamsa, and three others, including a YouTuber, on charges of defamation through false statements and attempted coercion.

The controversy alleged that on July 19, 2022, President Yoon Suk-yeol, Ministry of Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon, over 30 lawyers from Kim & Chang, and Lee Se-chang, former acting president of the Korea Football Federation (KFF), gathered at a bar in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, and drank past midnight. It was first raised in October 2022 by former Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Eui-gyeom and The Tamsa. At the time, Kim cited a conversation between cellist Ms. A and her former boyfriend, in which she allegedly said, "I saw Yoon Suk-yeol and Han Dong-hoon at the gathering."

However, the allegations were proven false. Ms. A later explained that she had lied to her boyfriend to cover up her late return home. Investigations revealed that Ms. A’s boyfriend and Kang colluded to pressure her into giving an interview that falsely portrayed the Cheongdam-dong gathering as factual. Kang was subsequently indicted without detention in September of last year on charges of attempted coercion and defamation.

Ms. A’s legal team, which submitted the complaint to Seoul Seocho Police Station, argued that despite Kang already facing trial for attempted coercion, he has been spreading false claims on YouTube...
