A representative of a company involved in the construction of the presidential residence testified in court on the 30th that he submitted a false statement to the Board of Audit and Inspection under the instruction of a presidential office administrator, regarding suspicions of preferential treatment in the relocation of the presidential residence.
Wondam General Construction representative Mr. A attended the trial for abuse of authority charges against former Office of the President administrator Mr. Hwang and others at the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 24 (Judge Lee Young-sun) and stated, “I followed the instructions of a presidential office administrator to submit a false answer to the Board of Audit and Inspection.”
Wondam General Construction lent its construction business name to 21 Gram, a company without a general construction license, in mid-2022, enabling it to undertake the presidential residence construction. Subsequent investigations revealed that the actual construction work was managed by SO Design, operated by Mr. A’s brother, through illegal subcontracting, while 21 Gram oversaw the site.
During the trial, Mr. A testified that he was only listed as the on-site responsible person on paper and had never visited the site or directly participated in the construction.
