CFTC Whistleblower Chief Named Agency’s Top Enforcement Watchdog - Yahoo Finance

(Bloomberg) -- The Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s top enforcement job will go to Brian Young, the former head of the regulator’s whistleblower office, the agency announced Friday.

“He is a fearless leader that will build an even more impressive enforcement program that will stay true to the CFTC’s mission to protect the American public from fraudsters and scammers,” Acting CFTC Chairman Caroline Pham said in a statement.

Young became director of the CFTC’s whistleblower office last year after two decades at the Department of Justice. Pham named Young acting director of enforcement as part of a leadership shuffle in January when President Donald Trump picked Pham as interim chair of the regulator.

Trump has since named Brian Quintenz, the head of policy at Andreessen Horowitz’s a16z crypto arm, to lead the agency. Quintenz served as a CFTC commissioner from 2017 to 2021.

The CFTC, the longtime overseer of commodities futures trading in the US, had its powers vastly expanded after the 2008 financial crisis, when complex financial derivatives helped cause a market meltdown.
