Cheltenham takeaway boss claims customers constantly make false claims to get refunds - Gloucestershire Live

A takeaway boss claims a policy change made by his delivery partners is costing him dear. Rahat Chowdhury, who runs the Maya Indian takeaway in Suffolk Parade, Cheltenham, said two of his partners, Just Eat and Deliveroo, recently changed their policy on refunds.

He said they no longer asked the restaurant regarding any issues and directly refunded the customer. The partners then invoiced Maya and asked it to dispute the complaint and he claimed that never went its way.

He said: “What I have recently found to be happening, and this makes it very tough for us in an already difficult climate, is that customers seem to be constantly claiming their food has not been delivered and claiming a full refund after receiving their meal.

“As a small business, it really affects us and companies such as Deliveroo and Just Eat aren’t addressing these issues.” He showed a number of invoices to Gloucestershire Live, to prove that his business had been landed with refund bills after customers claimed their food was cold or was missing an item. He insisted that they were fraudulent claims.

He said: “Customers are really taking advantage and unfortunately we are being left out of pocket. We never had this issue before and customers would never ever claim an order was not delivered or claim for cold food, etc.

“Ever since they’ve introduced these policies, customers are making falsified claims and having money refunded.” Mr Chowdhury said he wanted the matter to be raised publicly so people...
