China on Thursday called on the United States to review its “bullying” of developing countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, accusing Washington of engaging in “coercion and plunder.”
The statement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun during a regular press conference, in response to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s claim that Chinese investments in Latin America and the Caribbean constitute “predatory behavior.”
Guo Jiakun asserted that Washington deliberately spreads “false information” to create divisions between China and other countries, adding: “Who is engaging in coercion and plunder? Everyone can see the truth clearly.” He urged the US to stop distorting China’s image and acknowledge its hegemonic policies toward developing nations in the region.
