KOTA KINABALU: A civil servant was arrested on Monday morning (April 20) to facilitate investigations into alleged false claims involving a RM1.3mil janitorial project.

According to the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the man, who is in his 40s, was arrested at about 11am after giving his statement to graft investigators at the MACC office here.

A source said the suspect was believed to have submitted false claims for janitorial work in 2024.

The suspect was also said to be a director of a construction company linked to the case.

“The suspect is believed to have submitted false bank statements to secure cleaning projects at a police office in Sabah for the period between February 2025 and January 2027,” the source said on Tuesday (April 21).

The source also claimed that the suspect used several companies with the same modus operandi to obtain projects at other government agencies across Sabah.

Sabah MACC director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for making false claims.
