Reports about possible talks between representatives of the United States and Iran in Pakistan have been making media headlines. Meanwhile, claims have been circulating on social media alleging that an Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Bagher Ghalibaf, has arrived in Pakistan for these discussions.
One social media user shared a post stating: “JUST IN: An Iranian delegation led by Abbas Araghchi and Bagher Ghalibaf has arrived in Islamabad for talks. U.S. Vice President JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner are expected to arrive in Islamabad within the next few hours.”
The DFRAC investigated the viral claim and found it to be false. Iranian media outlets, citing official sources, have dismissed these reports as fake. To verify the claim, the team reviewed coverage from Iranian news agencies, including Tasnim News Agency and Mehr News Agency. Both outlets, quoting informed sources, categorically denied that any Iranian delegation had arrived in Islamabad for talks with U.S. officials.
According to Tasnim News Agency, “Reports by some media outlets that the Iranian negotiating team has reached Islamabad, Pakistan, to hold talks with the Americans are completely false,” an informed source stated. The source further emphasized that negotiations remain suspended as long as the United States does not fulfill its commitments regarding a ceasefire in Lebanon and Israeli attacks continue.
