Claims of thousands of jobs in refinery are fake, Raut writes in Saamna - The Indian Express

“I was shown the list of outsiders who have purchased lands at Barsu. It is shocking, and all those names should be brought into public domain for the welfare of the state. When the minister says thousands of youth will get employment from the refinery, it is nothing but to serve the interests of these outsider landlords. Refinery uses state-of-the-art technology which requires minimum human resource,” wrote Raut in his weekly column Rokhthok in the Sena (UBT) mouthpiece Saamna.

Raut also wrote that the government should acknowledge that the refinery is a chemical project. “Those who think it is beneficial should visit Mahul-Chembur area in Mumbai and see the condition of locals. Children are born in Mahul with breathing issues and skin diseases. Many residents are suffering. Many more are being diagnosed with cancer and asthma. What is the use of such a project when there is no guarantee of human life?” he wrote.

Raut slammed the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister over their silence on the use of police force against protesters and villagers in Barsu in last week. “The protesters were opposing land acquisition. Police aimed guns at them and threw them in vans like dead bodies. Those opposing the refinery are being arrested. Police have entered their houses. And Chief Minister Shinde goes on leave? Deputy CM Fadnavis is going to Mauritius to unveil the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and citizens of Shivaji Maharaj here are being oppressed by the police...
