Clermont County student falsely claims to have gun in backpack at elementary school - WKRC

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - A report that a student had a gun in a bookbag prompted a response during lunch on Monday at Withamsville-Tobasco Elementary School in Clermont County.

School officials with the West Clermont School District said they were notified that a student told a classmate he had a gun in his bookbag. The situation was immediately addressed with support from the Union Township Police Department. The student was isolated, and the bookbag was secured, officials said.

After the bookbag was searched, officials determined the student had falsely claimed to have a gun in the bag. Officials said no students or staff members were in danger.

School officials said they were notifying families “out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of transparency” and emphasized that student and staff safety remains the highest priority.

Because of privacy, officials said they would not share information about the student but said the situation was addressed appropriately with the student and the student’s family.

Officials also urged students to speak up to an adult anytime they see or hear about something unsafe.
