A regional Victorian bakery has been charged with several breaches of child employment laws.
The Victorian Wage Inspectorate filed the charges against Cobb's Bakery, in the south-west holiday town of Port Fairy, in the magistrates' court which will be heard next month.
The Inspectorate alleges the bakery's operators employed four children under the age of 15 without a permit and gave false or misleading information to a child employment officer.
The business also allegedly failed to ensure the children were supervised by someone with a Working with Children Check clearance.
The charges date from December 2021 to February 2022, when the town is busy with tourists.
The maximum penalty for each offence is 100 penalty units at a cost of $18,174.
If found guilty of all offences, the company faces a fine of more than $160,000.
The matter has been listed for mention in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on January 13, 2023.
A spokesman for the Inspectorate said it would not make further comment while the matter was before the court.
