The settlement with the state and federal governments resolves allegations that the owners of two dental practices illegally paid a “patient recruiting” company.
HARTFORD, Conn. — Federal and state officials announced on Wednesday that a $714,446 joint state and federal settlement was reached with multiple Connecticut dental practices, resolving allegations that they violated the False Claims Act.
The settlement involves Dent Plus Family Dentistry, L&M Family Dentistry and their owners – Ivan Maker and Oleg Losin. The dental practices allegedly illegally paid fees to a “patient recruiting” company.
Dent Plus was based in Stamford, while L&M operated out of New Haven, but both practices have since dissolved.
Attorney General William Tong pointed out that this is the sixth settlement connected to active joint civil investigations with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the federal Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
These investigations are focused on alleged kickback-tainted claims for services given to Connecticut Medicaid patients referred by third-party patient recruiting companies.
From Jan. 1, 2019, until Sept. 6, 2020, Makar and Losin were enrolled in the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program, or CMAP, which is what the Connecticut Medicaid program falls under.
