Connecticut minimum wage rises on Jan. 1, 2026: What will it be? - Norwich Bulletin

Connecticut's minimum wage is set to increase to $16.94 per hour starting Jan. 1, 2026.

The hike, up from the current $16.35, is part of a state law that ties minimum wage adjustments to economic indicators, according to a community announcement.

The law, signed by Gov. Ned Lamont in 2019, requires the minimum wage to be adjusted annually based on the U.S. Department of Labor's employment cost index. The Connecticut Department of Labor reviews the index and announces any necessary adjustments by Oct. 15 each year, with changes taking effect the following Jan. 1.

Labor Commissioner Dante Bartolomeo said the employment cost index increased by 3.6% over the 12-month period ending June 30, resulting in the 59-cent increase.

“Nobody who works full-time should have to live in poverty,” Lamont said. “For too long, as the nation’s economy grew the income of the lowest earning workers has stayed flat, making already existing pay disparities even worse and preventing hardworking families from obtaining financial security. This is a fair, modest increase, and the money earned will go right back into our own economy, supporting local businesses in our communities.”

Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz said the minimum wage was established to provide a fair, livable baseline of income for those who work.

“This is a fair, gradual increase for workers that ensures that as the economy grows, our minimum wage grows with it – and that’s good for everyone,” she said.
