A 29-year-old Connecticut woman whose car was stolen is accused of falsely reporting her child was inside the vehicle so officers would respond with greater urgency.
Pamela Rodriguez of New Britain, Conn., claimed someone absconded with her vehicle and child around 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Hartford Courant.
A New Britain Police Department investigation confirmed Rodriguez’s car was indeed stolen, but concluded she “fabricated” the missing child report so cops would come faster.
“No child was ever in any danger,” police said in a statement.
The suspect has since been charged with making a false statement to police and reporting a false incident.
Local outlet WFSB said law enforcement will continue searching for Rodriguez’s missing vehicle.
Police in Mansfield, Conn., recently found themselves searching for a child whose father falsely reported the boy had been abducted from a car in a grocery store parking lot. That child was found safely at home following an extensive late-October search, ending with Price Chopper security video showing the 30-year-old man made two trips to the store that night, but only brought his son along for the first one.
Police said the dad showed signs of “possible impairment” and failed a sobriety test.
