Noida: District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC) in Ghaziabad has directed a Noida-based company to pay a fine of Rs 10,000, in addition to refunding Rs 2,400 taken from a customer for a weight-loss formula — three years after a complaint was lodged with DCDRC by a Kaushambi couple.On Aug 27, DCDRC president Praveen Kumar Jain, along with members Shailja Sachan and RP Singh, found M/s Vedas Cure Private Limited guilty of deficiency in service by "propagating misleading advertisements". They rejected the company's claims their products are Ayurvedic and have no side effects, while the applicant contended that the user not only suffered side effects but also did not see any positive results in terms of weight loss as claimed in the advertisements.Directing it to pay Rs 12,400 within 45 days, the commission ruled that in case of delay, it has to pay interest on the outstanding amount at 6% per annum until the last payment is made.Kaushambi resident Niraj Kumar Srivastava and his wife, Surekha Srivastava, approached the commission on Sept 19, 2022, with a complaint. They procured medicines from M/s Vedas Cure Private Limited after being convinced through social media advertisements that the products are highly effective in weight loss."When my wife called the number provided in the advertisement, she was told that she would lose 5kg within a month for sure if she used the medicines for 30 days.
