Paxton has come under fire again for his overseas trips and the cost to Texan taxpayers
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been in the headlines a lot in recent times.
Last month, Paxton Ken agreed to apologize and pay $3.3 million to four former staffers who accused him of corruption in 2020. Paxton called the former staffers "rogue employees," They sued Paxton under Texas' whistleblower law. Texan taxpayers will fund the payout.
This was followed by AG Paxton filing a lawsuit claiming "that the $1.7 trillion spending law that keeps most of the federal government — including the United States military— operating through September of 2023 is unconstitutional."
Now a damning media report has been published today stating the Texas AG decided to take a trip to Europe despite being "twice subpoenaed to sit for a deposition in a securities fraud lawsuit involving two former friends."
Paxton could not attend the disposition the first time due to a trip to China and the second time due to plans to be in Europe.
A report from the Department of Safety shows Paxton traveled to Rome, Albania, Greece, and Malta rather than appearing at the disposition.
It "cost $78,000 to feed, house and transport the law enforcement officers protecting Paxton during those trips."
The report also notes Paxton visited Italy, the Caribbean, and Florida in June.
Total "security spending for June through August topped $127,000", more than either the Texas Gov. Greg Abbott or Lt.Gov Dan Patrick.
