A former leader of Edinburgh city council has called for local authority staff to sign up to a code of conduct in a bid to stop any corruption among public officials.
In an interview with The Times, Donald Anderson, who led the city’s Labour administration from 1999 to 2006, said the role of the Standards Commission should be extended to embrace council officers to ensure they worked within “an ethical framework”.
He was speaking after a report by Susanne Tanner, QC, concluded that Edinburgh city council was unsafe for whistleblowers, and urged council leaders to reform the system, making 50 recommendations.
