ALOR STAR: A couple who owned a travel agency claimed trial at the Sessions Court here today to three counts of charges of submitting false claims worth nearly RM30,000 to the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) under its Hiring Incentive Programme two years ago.
The accused Anuar Che Lat, 53, and his wife Rohana Othman, 55, made the plea before Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah.
They had committed the alleged offences between March and June 2021.
For the first count, the couple were jointly charged with submitting false claims for the incentive to Perkeso officer Puteri Nur Amyrah Megat Abasresas with the intention to mislead the organisation.
They are accused of having submitted a claim worth RM10,100 for Muhamad Shafik Abd Halim, 28, despite having knowledge that he was not their employee.
They are alleged to have committed the offence at Wisma Perkeso in Jalan Teluk Wanjah on March 9, 2021.
The charge was framed under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (Act 694) and punishable under Section 24(2) of the same Act, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code (Act 574).
The charge is punishable under Section 24(2) of the MACC Act which carries not more than 20 years jail term and a fine not less than five times the amount or RM10,000 whichever is higher.
The couple later claimed trial to a similar charge of submitting a false claim for Muhamad Shamir Abd Halim, 36, despite having knowledge that he was not their employee.
