Cricket Australia Shut Down False Reports Surrounding Justin Langer's Future - Sporting News AU

Cricket Australia have moved to shut down rumours surrounding Justin Langer, with speculation mounting over his coaching future.

A report from Fox Sports described a meeting between Langer and CA officials as 'fiery', and also reported that the current coach would potentially have to reapply for his job.

Pressure was mounting on Langer mid-way through 2021, but those issues were quickly forgotten as Australia won the T20 World Cup and The Ashes in quick succession.

But that hasn't earned him a new contract at this stage, with CA officials still weighing up all their options.

Fox Sports reporter Tom Morris also told SEN Radio on Tuesday that the meeting was nuclear and Langer was insulted by the suggestions from CA boss Nick Hockley.

“He was insulted -this wasn’t Nick Hockley or Ben Oliver saying you will have to reapply for the job, it was simply raised as a possibility, and even to raise it insulted Justin Langer,” he said.

“His response was nuclear – he went ballistic when they asked him what his thoughts would be on reapplying for the position. That was the hottest part of the meeting.

“There was lots of discussion of topics that were delicate, but when they raised the possibility of reapplying for a role that he has held for four years – almost as if he had to go on trial again – up against other candidates who have far inferior CVs to him, it’s no surprise his response was pretty pointed.
