CT law firm sharpens focus on litigation with name change, practice split - Hartford Business Journal

A boutique law firm in Milford is rebranding and refocusing its practice exclusively on litigation after its land-use group left to join another firm.

Hurwitz Sagarin Slossberg & Knuff announced Monday that it had changed its name to Hurwitz Sagarin & Slossberg (HSS), dropping a named partner as part of the strategic shift toward complex commercial litigation.

Three veteran attorneys at the firm — John Knuff, Amy Souchuns and Sara Sharp — have moved to MacDermid, Reynolds & Glissman (MRG), which recently opened its fourth office, located at 42 Cherry St. in Milford.

David Slossberg, owner and managing partner of HSS, characterized the move as mutually beneficial.

“This change positions Hurwitz Sagarin & Slossberg to concentrate fully on litigation, which remains our core strength and our passion,” Slossberg said.

HSS has a reputation for taking on high-profile cases in Connecticut, including representing Janel Grant in her lawsuit against World Wrestling Entertainment and a class of nearly 1,000 nursing students against Stone Academy. The firm also represented a class of former aerospace employees against Pratt & Whitney and former AIG executives in litigation against the insurance giant.

Slossberg said the singular focus will eliminate potential conflicts of interest that can arise at firms with both litigation and transactional practices.
