Dave & Buster’s has agreed to pay $275,000 in a settlement with the restaurant arcade company over claims it broke meal break and child labor laws, Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell’s office announced Friday.
The company will pay the $275,000 to compensate over 800 employees and accept three citations issued by Campbell’s office, according to the terms of the agreement. Dave & Buster’s has locations in Braintree, Natick and Woburn.
Dave & Buster’s received citations for violating state law by not providing meal breaks of at least 30 minutes to employees who worked shifts lasting longer than six hours, Campbell’s office said. It also did not obtain work permits for minors before they began employment, and the company also employed 16- or 17-year-old minors for later hours than permitted by law.
Campbell’s office began looking into the company after a parent filed a complaint that said their child was made to work past midnight on a weeknight, along with a complaint that said meal breaks were denied to workers. An ensuing investigation found that employees regularly worked shifts of more than six hours without taking meal breaks.
