DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- Gem City Action held a solidarity rally in support of the Haitian community at Bomberger Park on Sunday, September 15.
This comes after Springfield made national news following former President Donald Trump's unfounded statement of ‘they’re eating the cats and dogs in Springfield’ during last Tuesday's debate, as well as JD Vance’s re-sharing of a now-viral video which claims to show African migrants barbecuing cats last summer in Dayton.

Multiple people spoke at the rally, including a local author and member of Standing Rock Sioux Nation. Chief Guy Jonestalked about kindness, the united relationship of humanity and how people are closer than they think they are.
“Fifty years ago, we were having conversations back on Standing Rock with the elders. We spoke of a time when America was going to destroy itself when evil would be fighting against evil. Many of us automatically think of the orange buffoon that came onto the scene a few years ago, but it’s much deeper than that. People need to understand and recognize the history of where we’re at. All of us, and all of you, are immigrants,” said Chief Jones.
