As a partner at Nelson Mullins, Deborah St. Lawrence Thompson is an experienced litigator representing private and public sector employer clients in both labor and employment matters. Her work includes defending clients against claims such as wage-and-hour disputes, discrimination and wrongful termination.

Known for her passion to provide opportunities to women and diverse attorneys, she has been a member of the firm’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee since 2020. Serving as chair in 2021 and 2022, she worked to create programming focused on increasing engagement for women and diverse attorneys.

While working to establish affinity groups, she helped to create and implement DEI policies and procedures that assist with integration, inclusion, retention and promotion of diverse attorneys at the firm.

Thompson is also a member of The Empowerment Collaborative of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) where she works to increase the visibility and profiles of women and diverse attorneys and provide programming on social issues impacting the underserved and underrepresented. In 2021, she was the recipient of the IADC DEl award for the Active Ally series.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology/management from the University of West Indies and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
