Mar. 7—POTTSVILLE — The man charged with attacking a woman in 2021 testified Tuesday that he was a victim of the crime and that his brother's friend was responsible.
Kevin Leemon Harris, 38, of 810 W. Race St., is on trial for attacking Lilliana Fowler inside his third-floor bedroom at the West Race Street address on Nov. 10, 2021.
Fowler was flown to a trauma center after the attack, which left her with slashing wounds and a stab wound to the chest.
Harris took the stand in his own defense Tuesday and said that most or all of the testimony by numerous prosecution witnesses Monday and Tuesday was not factual.
Identifying himself as the intended target, Harris claimed the attack was committed by Raekwon Smith, a friend of his brother, Kashif Harris.
"It wasn't meant for her; it was meant for me," the defendant said.
He told the court that the two men came into the bedroom where he and Fowler were sleeping and that Smith attacked him.
Earlier testimony said that Smith, Kashif Harris and another person came to the house, found Kevin Harris alone inside but then discovered Fowler semiconscious and bleeding in the bedroom.
The three testified that when they arrived at the house, they found Kevin Harris, who subsequently fled with what may have been a knife in his hand.
Kashif Harris said that to the best of his knowledge, his brother was the only person in the house with Fowler and that he was concerned about making sure Fowler was "safe and not dead."
