Democrats Aim to Spare Most Vulnerable From Nutrition Work Rules - Bloomberg Law

Debt ceiling provisions that exempt certain vulnerable people from work requirements in the country’s biggest food aid program would become permanent under a new Democratic bill.

Democrats fought against stricter work rules for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in negotiations to raise the debt ceiling. Republicans managed to tighten some parts of work requirements in the final bill (H.R. 3746). But President Joe Biden pushed for exemptions in exchange, excluding veterans, homeless people, and young adults aging out of foster care from work rules for nutrition assistance.
