JOHANNESBURG - Tuesday marks a year since whistleblower Babita Deokaran was shot and killed outside her Winchester Hills home.
At the time of her death, she was acting chief financial officer at Gauteng's Health Department.
The special investigating unit later confirmed she would be a witness in a COVID-19 PPE procurement scandal valued at millions.
Her killing raised concerns about the safety of whistleblowers in the country.
A year later several men have been arrested in connection with her murder.
Corruption Watch says their research shows more needs to be done to protect possible whistleblowers.
