DePuy Synthes Pays $9.75 Million to Settle Kickback Allegations - Bloomberg Law

DePuy Synthes Inc., a medical device manufacturer and subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, will pay $9.75 million to resolve alleged violations of the False Claims Act in Massachusetts, the Department of Justice said on Friday.

The company allegedly violated the Anti-Kickback Statute by causing the submission of false or fraudulent claims to Medicare by paying a surgeon kickbacks, DOJ said.

The surgeon allegedly received spinal implants and surgery tools for overseas procedures to induce his use of DePuy products when performing surgeries in the United States, said the agency.
