Deutsche Bank CEO urges faster German reforms, calls for flexible labour laws - Yahoo Finance

Investing.com -- Deutsche Bank (ETR) CEO Christian Sewing has criticised the slow pace of Germany's economic reforms, urging the government to ease employment protections and accelerate implementation.

In an interview with German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, Sewing said Chancellor Friedrich Merz's coalition government had correctly identified the country's economic challenges but had failed to act quickly or decisively enough.

He argued that reforms introduced so far were insufficient, warning that political compromises risked undermining efforts to strengthen Germany's competitiveness.

While acknowledging the importance of protecting workers, the banking executive called for greater flexibility in employment regulations to help businesses respond more effectively to changing economic conditions.

Sewing specifically suggested lowering the annual salary threshold for certain employment protections from its current level of 180,000 ($202,000).

He maintained that Germany's labour market rules needed to reflect the increasing speed of economic and technological change, allowing companies to adapt their workforces more efficiently.
