Written By ESR News Blog Editor Thomas Ahearn

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary has met with state and local law enforcement officials and the National Football League (NFL) in Los Angeles, California, to review DHS operations to help ensure the safety and security of employees, players, and fans during Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, February 13, 2022.

“The Department of Homeland Security is fundamentally a department of partnerships, and those partnerships are critical to ensuring the safety and security of Super Bowl operations as well as that of the surrounding community,” DHS Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas stated in a press release issued by the DHS.

DHS support for Super Bowl LVI includes more than 500 DHS personnel providing extensive air and maritime security resources; chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives detection technologies; venue, cyber, and infrastructure security assessments; and intelligence analysis and threat assessments.

The DHS has classified this event as a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) Level 1, meaning it is significant, with national and international importance, and requires extensive federal support. Several DHS agencies are working with state and local partners and the NFL to ensure the safety and security of Super Bowl LVI.
