Social media has been ablaze with rumors that President Donald Trump has raised the federal minimum wage after a viral video claimed Americans will now pocket a minimum $25 an hour.
The video, making its rounds on the X platform, TikTok and Facebook, is plastered with generic stock footage and a "Breaking News" banner, dubbed with a women's voice claiming the president's new law started "the 15th of April."
The woman goes on to state that effective "the 8th of April 2025, no American worker will be allowed to earn less than $25 an hour," which provides no clarification to the discrepancy in her initial mention of "the 15th of April."

Did Trump increase minimum wage?
No. Trump has not announced any intentions to raise the federal minimum wage, which has remained the same for 16 years. The president also has zero control over state minimum wage rates.
States are allowed to set the minimum wage at or above the federal minimum.
While Trump said he'd consider raising the federal minimum wage while he was president-elect in December, he has not made any moves to do so. In January, Scott Bessent, Trump's Treasury secretary, said a flat "no" when asked by Sen. Bernie Sanders if he planned to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to take millions of Americans out of poverty.
