Disinformation accounts concoct fake Hanson-Albanese TV debate - aap.com.au

False. The quotes attributed to the politicians have been fabricated by a foreign-run disinformation operation.

AAP FactCheck - Pauline Hanson and Anthony Albanese did not trade barbs during a live TV debate, despite claims from a foreign-run disinformation operation.

There's no record of a broadcast debate between the pair and the quotes attributed to the politicians in the widely shared post have been fabricated.

A Facebook account called "Mood Space", which Meta's page transparency data shows is based in Vietnam, posted the false claims on August 19.

The post claims the prime minister and One Nation leader debated each other about regional development on television.

The post includes several quotes falsely attributed to Senator Hanson, including that she supposedly told Mr Albanese to "Shut your dirty mouth".

The post includes a composite image featuring shots of both Mr Albanese and Senator Hanson and directs users to a website in the comments that expands on the false claims.

There are no credible reports of Senator Hanson debating Mr Albanese on TV.

Other clickbait Facebook posts have previously attributed the exact same quotes to other high-profile politicians.

A July 14 Facebook post, for example, claims US Democrat Senator Mark Kelly told US Vice-President JD Vance to "SHUT YOUR DIRTY MOUTH. DON'T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT MY HOMELAND" during a "heated on-air confrontation".
