Disputes between employees and their bosses over flexible working requests continue to rise as staff increasingly want the option of staying at home, according to a study.
Many employees continue to work from home, with many offices still not back to full capacity since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020.
Businesses now frequently offer employees the option of working from home for at least part of the working week and must consider requests in a 'reasonable manner' according to government guidance.
The right to flexible working
All employees now have the legal right to request working from home to suit their needs.
However, staff must have worked with the same employer for at least 26 weeks before submitting a formal request.

This includes weighing up the pros and cons for the employer for allowing flexible working for staff and discussing the request with the employee.
Employers have the right to refuse work from home requests if they have 'a good business reason for doing so'.

However, firms do not have to accommodate working from home if they choose not to do so, leading to frequent conflict between employees and their bosses.
Employment law firm GQ Littler said there were 190 employment tribunal cases relating to flexible working in the past year, a slight increase on the previous year.
