Nigerian athlete Solomon Okereke, a friend of Ateneo student-athlete Divine Adili, appealed to the public on the final night of Adili’s wake to refrain from spreading false information online.
“And I still plead for those pushing wrong narrative, please I’m begging all of you, please, at this time we just want mourn Divine, peacefully,” Okereke said.
In an interview, Okereke expressed concern over the circulation of fake photos and misleading stories on social media, saying that such content only adds to the pain of those grieving.
He also urged the public to respect their privacy and allow Adili’s family, friends, and teammates to mourn peacefully.
“Please just allow us to mourn him in peace,” Solomon Okereke said.
Fr. RB Hizon, SJ, spokesperson for Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), said that Adili’s friends and teammates had requested that the final night of the wake remain private.
“Yun ang expressed na hiling nung team at saka nung mga kaibigan na huwag gawing media event,” Fr. Hizon said.
Fr. Roberto “Bobby” C. Yap, SJ, President of Ateneo de Manila University, also declined to provide further information on matters concerning Adili's passing.
