CONNECTICUT — Docs Medical entered into a civil settlement agreement with federal and state governments to settle allegations that the group improperly billed for certain office visits associated with COVID-19 tests.
Docs CEO Dr. Jasdeep Sidana, Docs Medical, Docs Medical Inc. Docs, Urgent Care LLP, Lung Docs Of CT and other subsidiaries agreed to pay $4.26 million. Docs operates 20 facilities throughout Connecticut that span primary care, urgent care, allergy testing, and COVID-19 testing.
“Healthcare providers are expected to closely follow Medicare rules and bill properly — nothing more, nothing less,” said U.S. Department of Health and Human Services special agent Phillip M. Coyn.“When that obligation is violated, government health care programs – and American taxpayers – pay the price."
Docs and Sidana started providing allergy and treatment services in 2014. Government officials alleged that Docs and Sidana submitted false claims to Medicare and Medicaid for immunotherapy services that weren't medically necessary and weren't directly supervised by a physician, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.
The government also alleged that Sidana submitted claims for dates of service when he was traveling internationally and that lower-level practitioners were performing the treatments.
