The Delhi government’s Directorate of Education (DoE) on Thursday filed a police complaint over the “misinformation” that school teachers had been ordered to count stray dogs.
In the complaint filed at the Civil Lines police station, the DoE said that deliberate attempts were made to “spread false and fabricated news”, leading to widespread confusion among teachers and non-teaching staff.
At a press conference, Education Director Veditha Reddy said it was completely “false and fabricated” that the DoE told teachers to count stray dogs near schools. “There was no such directive issued... teachers are only involved in academic activities. The false narrative is mischievous,” said Ms. Reddy.
The Director alleged that videos of some individuals “impersonating as teachers” and counting stray dogs have surfaced on social media. “It needs to be immediately investigated, and appropriate legal and criminal action should be taken,” Ms. Reddy added.
Earlier this week, Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal cited a November 20 order issued by the Education Department, which stated that the “primary focus” of the directive was the “identification, vaccination and sterilisation of stray dogs to ensure safety for students and the public”.
